English I is a course designed to review grammatical concepts and to introduce new structure. Attention is given to standard usage, good sentence structure, good listening, vocabulary, spelling, and punctuation. Major concentrations will be the analysis of literary techniques and types of literature, including the novel. Basic composition skills will be taught and paragraph organization emphasized. Students wil be expected to communicate both orally and written, and to improve listening, thinking and study skills. Two novels and a Shakespearean play will be studied.
